Children Day Celebration, A Call for Responsible Parenthood

Looking at the world today, it is obvious that responsible parenthood is sick and need urgent attention. Children are now left to behave like a lone wolf in the wilderness. Parents no longer have time to mentor, guide, provide and lead their children out of global darkness they have once passed through. This has led to the exhibition of inhuman behaviour in our children which is a threat to the communal peace and development. Culture of decency, loyalty, honesty, integrity, transparency and hard-working which are our core values to be passed to our children are now missing.

Permit me to challenge parents most especially fathers in the house to be alive to their traditional roles of responsible parenthood. We are too busy to have time for our children. The motto of Man O' War which is "Build a Man and Build a Community" is my point of reference. Let us create time for our children for us to be proud of them in the future. 

The present state of the Nation has made us to forget that we have a role to play at home. Many all in the name of "what are we going to eat" or "what are we going to be", have abandoned their children for a maid or a lone mother. Parents in the house, efforts we didn't consider right today may be an agelong regret if we fail to be alive to our responsibilities now as tomorrow may be too late. Now is the time to brace up, take  our mantle and report to our duty posts if we don't want to live a life of regret at a later year.

A responsible parent sees his home as priority. He/she must posses the will and ability to respect and do the needs and aspirations of the family and children. It is the primary duty of a responsible parent to detect the need, happiness, desire of the children, protect, provide, counsel them to become responsible and reasonable children. We shouldn't see payment of school fees and fueling of generator as our only roles as it goes beyond that. Do we ever pray to reap the fruits of our labour? If yes, pay attention to the training of your children. 

As a trained and practising teacher, alot of ills is noticed in our children while in school. Majority are in unstable minds as a result of defects from home. Remember, if the home is not sweet, the city is like a bush. I considered this attitude of students while in as a threat to their optimal academic performance, societal, economic and political development of our great country Nigeria.                    

We should also monitore how our children use mobile phones and social media. Those platforms possess great dangers if the usage is not well guided. Several opportunities are embedded on the internet as classroom is moving away from physical to virtual. We should endeavour to train our children the way they ought to follow because when they grow old, they won't depart from it.  

Remember, an untrained child/children will end up selling family inheritance for a peanut because he/she was not trained to value that inheritance. The best legacy in the world is receiving good parental training. 

I join the rest of the world to celebrate our special and unique children as they are globally celebrated. Be rest assured, the future has the best packages you need to fulfill destiny provided you dream and work towards it. To parents, we shall live to reap the good fruits of our labour.
