CULTISM: RAMPANT MENACE AFFECTING NIGERIAN CAMPUSES IN SOUTH WESTERN STATES - NANS SOUTH WEST DEPUTY COORDINATOR 

The Deputy Coordinator, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) South West Zone, in person of Comrade Oladimeji Uthman was a guest on FreshFM (107.9) Abeokuta, Ogun state where he was hosted by Wale Bakare on the topic; 'Issues affecting Nigerian Campuses in South West: Cultism as a case Study' on the 15th of February, 2020.

Comrade Dan Fodio spoke at length on the effects and consequences of cultism in our various institutions in Nigeria.


The presenter couldn't permit the NANS Deputy Coordinator South West to fully address the issue of the Students Union Government (SUG) President of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro over the allegations against him by the school community and Nigeria police. 

Comrade Dan Fodio emphasize that before any student's emerge has Students' Union leader, he/she would have undergone security screening within and outside the school to justify his or her credibility and integrity.

He also said that primary and secondary schools are also under the NANS umbrella; so automatically every pupil/student in this country is a member of NANS irrespective of the level of education.

He said, NANS are working and preaching against cultism in our tertiary institutions. He also talked about cybercrime that's not promoting NANS, so therefore, students should desist from any form of social vices.

Comrade Dan Fodio also spoke on institution management victimizing students activists/leaders tagging them to be a cultist which is wrong and condemned. He said the school management should always investigate any case prior making conclusion.
He also hinted on forthcoming sensitization programme coming up for all secondary schools students in South West whereby our students at the Secondary level will be orientated on Life Changing Program which is tagged “BEYOND SECONDARY SCHOOL LEAVING CERTIFICATE”.

NANS South West Deputy Coordinator also urge and advise the government to ensure there are effective security networks across all tertiary institutions in the country. Any students found guilty legally should be prosecuted accordingly.


Comrade Dan Fodio concluded that, NANS Zone D (South West Zone) under the leadership of Comrade Kappo Olawale will continue to agitate, protect the rights of Nigerian students and also won't stop to continue to educate and orientate our teeming members against cultism and other social vices in our tertiary institutions because of the consequences which include: rustication, expulsion, untimely death etc.
