LPYM DECLARED VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON THE SPEAKER OF THE LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, RT. HON. MUDASHIRU AJAYI OBASA

On Sunday 31st of May 2020, the leadership of Lagos Protective Youth Movement (LPYM) passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa for transforming the Assembly to an international standard while becoming the benchmark to assess other State House of Assembly in Nigeria.  LPYM conform with the activities of the House of Assembly and are pleased with the successes recorded so far under the progressive leadership of the Speaker.

LPYM have watched with keen interest the media trial and assault on the office and person of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly by some elements hiding behind a well known critic media outfit (Sahara Reporter) to act the scripts of their paymasters against the astute administrator, who has been leading the parliamentary excellence at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The Speaker since assumption of office has changed the narratives of the parliament with his leadership style and most importantly, he has introduced people's oriented motions and bills that has continue to positively affected the lives of the people of Lagos state. His excellent approach to leading the Assembly in no time earned him the trust to be saddled with the responsibility of becoming the chairman of the Nigeria Speakers Forum.

This vote of confidence became a necessity following several media reports credited to Sahara Reporters trying to blackmail the Speaker with laughable corruption allegations and in the process dragging to the mud the name of the most enviable and purposeful House of Assembly in Nigeria.

The Convener of the group, Comrade Fagbodun Oluwadamilare, a former Students Union Speaker of a tertiary institution in Lagos and one-time National Public Relation Officer of NANS addressed journalist in Lagos, where he described the allegations as unfounded and aimed at discrediting the good work and exemplary leadership of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He was supported by other members of the group across the state as they enjoined the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly not to be distracted by the baseless allegations and continue to legislate for a greater and working Lagos for all the residents of the state.

The group stated that the decision to pass vote of confidence on the Speaker was reached based on the achievements of the House under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, while stressing that the vote of confidence would spur him and the entire state assembly to do more.

"We make bold to state that the leadership of the House have done well to assist the implementation of the THEMES agenda of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu administration with adequate legislations. Also, bills passed in the House have immensely helped the growth of the state with particular reference to security and job creation. The 9th Lagos Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has brought dividends of government to the people.

As at today, Lagos State House of Assembly has become a symbol of legislative autonomy, stressing that the State is the only state legislature in Nigeria that is presently practicing "legislative autonomy".

The Convener eulogized the Speaker for the magnificent work of his leadership. Members of LPYM stated collectively that thoughts of impeachment and legislative bickering is far from the Lagos State House of Assembly as there is unalloyed peace and understanding between members of the parliament which has been heavily displayed consistently during parliamentary sessions. It is therefore right to conclude that the leadership of the Lagos lower chamber commands and enjoy the support of her members.

Conclusively, we call on the naysayers to desist from the filthy and low-level politics played by them to discredit the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership all in the name of interest and enjoin them to join hands with the progressives to take Lagos State to unprecedented heights.
