The leadership of
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest region (ZONE D) lauds the Federal Government for the increment and payment of the N33,000 allowance to NYSC Corp members.
It is stipulated in the law that established the NYSC that the Federal, States, Local Government and other stakeholders should periodically review the allowances of corps members.
The increase in the NYSC allowance is long overdue as the last increment was in 2011 when the then Federal Government reviewed upward the allowance to
N19,800.00 from N9,775.00.
The recent increase in the allowance of the Corpers became a necessity upon the signing of the new minimum wage bill into law by the President. The promise to increase the allowance by also paying the Corp members the new minimum wage was made late last year by the Federal Government and has just been fulfilled upon the implementation of the new minimum wage payment structure.
We commend the Federal Government for the prompt payment of the new allowance as it is captured in the budget for this fiscal year (2020).
We applaud the Government for keeping this promise whilst urging them to further fulfill all their promises to take the Nigerian State to the Next Level.
NIGERIA MUST BE GREAT!
