Gboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly Christians in the state, on the birth of Jesus Christ.
Oyetola urged Christians to embrace the holiday season to pray for Nigeria's prosperity, peace, and unity.
He did, however, remind them that the coronavirus is still present, as the country is now in its fourth wave, with a 500% spike in cases.
Oyetola asked Christians to embrace the Yuletide season to reignite acts of love and compassion to one another, especially the weak in society, in a Christmas greeting signed by his spokesperson, Ismail Omipidan.
He charged the citizens of the state with rededicating themselves to the service of mankind, in accordance with Jesus Christ's authentic teachings, which emphasize brotherly love, tolerance, caring for the destitute, and patience, among other qualities.
"As a reminder, the coronavirus is still active. Let us not get complacent. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported that the country is currently in the fourth wave of COVID-19, with infections increasing by more than 500% across the country. As a result, I ask you all to celebrate properly while adhering to all COVID-19 requirements.
"Also, let us take use of this joyous occasion to pray for Nigeria's prosperity, peace, and unity, since this era calls for introspection and sustained prayers for our dear nation." "As a result, I urge Nigerians to continue reflecting on the good tenets that unify us as a country and build the polity," Oyetola stated.
